Vuilleumier Week 4

What makes something socially unacceptable? There are some things considered too rude and offensive to talk about among a sophisticated crowd while others are perfectly acceptable, why is that? Is the emphasis, the thing that makes them wrong or right, behind the thing itself or the implied meaning, or both? What gives them their meaning? And if somethings are considered unacceptable, then why is it that some people may not find them offensive while others do? What would happen if nothing was considered unacceptable or too offensive? What would happen then?
